Programme du colloque Anthropocène Monument Toulouse 11-12 octobre

Le projet Anthropocène-Monument aux Abattoirs à Toulouse (le centre d'art contemporain) a rassemblé un ensemble très passionnant d'artistes, de chercheurs en sciences de la terre, d'historiens et de philosophes autour de la question atmosphérique dite de l'anthropocène, question disputée s'il en est, mais sur laquelle nous souhaitions faire le point de la façon la plus spectaculaire possible en liant à nouveau, comme l'an dernier avec la pièce de théâtre Gaia Global Circus les arts et les sciences. Cette année les oeuvres d'Adam Lowe et de Tomas Saraceno, ainsi que la présence du président du comité des géologues chargés de la décision finale sur la nomenclature "anthropocène" donneront une prise particulièrement forte pour aborder ces questions.

Programme des 11-12 octobre
The event will combine academic lectures, performances, conversations and guided tours in the exhibition, with participants drawn from the natural and social sciences, humanities and arts: Frédérique Ait Touati (historian of literature, theatre director), Lise Autogena and Joshua Portway (artists), Iain Baxter (artist), Christophe Bonneuil (historian of science), Jerry Brotton (historian), Pierre Chabard (architect and historian), Nigel Clark (geographer and geophilosopher), Claire Colebrook (cultural theorist), Fabien Giraud (artist), Emilie Hache (philosopher), Catherine Jeandel (marine geochemist), Bruno Latour (sociologist and philosopher of science), Armin Linke (artist), Adam Lowe (artist), John Palmesino and Ann-Sofi Palmesino Rönnskog (architects and urbanists), Alain Podaire (oceanographer), Tomás Saraceno (artist), Bronislaw Szerszynski (sociologist and philosopher), Yesenia Thibault-Picazo (artist) and Jan Zalasiewicz (geologist and chair of ICS Anthropocene Working Group). It will conclude with a simulation of the decision of the International Commission on Stratigraphy (ICS), deliberating on the status of the Anthropocene and the form that a Monument should take. The event will be conducted in French and English, with simultaneous translation.

The accompanying exhibition, also called Anthropocene Monument, will be shown at Les Abattoirs from 3 October 2014 to 4 January 2015. Thirty artists will exhibit their designs for a monument to the Anthropocene.
